Registration for The Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments, Cost: $25
Dates: Sundays, May 31 - June 28, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m., via Zoom.
Facilitator: Dr. Ryan Bonfiglio, Assistant Professor in the Practice of Old Testament at the Candler School of Theology.
This 5-week course with Candler School of Theology explores the theological and ethical dimensions of the Ten Commandments. We will examine the historical meaning of each commandment, as well as how they are applied and commented upon in the rest of Scripture. Emphasis will be placed on how the Ten Commandments function to cultivate a "good neighborhood" of justice and compassion in which all members of society, especially the vulnerable and marginalized, can flourish. We also will consider the place of the Ten Commandments in American culture, including debates about whether it should be displayed in courtrooms or other public places. We will also deal with some of the realities we are facing during COVID-19 in light of these commandments. This class will be a Zoom based on Sundays at 6:30 p.m. beginning May 31st.
